The Three Creeks Confluence will open to the public on Wednesday, July 7th! Red Butte, Emigration, and Parley’s creeks are now freed from their century-long concrete tomb. Fremont cottonwood, boxelder, and Woods’ rose grow along their banks once again. The one-acre urban green space highlights this unique geographic location within the Jordan River watershed.
The Three Creeks Confluence features improved access to the Jordan River corridor. An east-west bridge connects the site, and surrounding community, to the 50-mile Jordan River Trail and contiguous trails throughout the Wasatch Front. A north-south bridge improves connection across the creeks and an opportunity for anglers to toss a line in. This bridge also features 20 community designs cut into metal on the bridge. Designs speak to our waterways, the natural life they support, and the Glendale neighborhood of Salt Lake City. A boat put-in allows additional access to water recreation on the Jordan River.
A new plaza creates space for environmental education and programming throughout the year. We are working with Salt Lake City and partners to create weekly programming to activate the site with fun, educational, and meaningful events. A nature play space utilizes a dead cottonwood from on-site and trees knocked down in 2020’s windstorm to create a space for unstructured outdoor play.
Salt Lake City purchased the adjacent property to the north. The existing house is fenced off for the time being. However, efforts are being made to create a community and nature center to facilitate further programming and activation of the site.
Celebrate the opening of the Three Creeks Confluence with live music, beer, food trucks, and more on July 9th from 5-9P. All ages welcome! Click here for more information.
