Construction Begins on Folsom Trail

Authored by Anne Whitehouse

Construction on the Folsom Trail began on June 1st, and is expected to finish by the end of the year. This project is the first phase in revitalizing the Folsom Corridor.

In collaboration with the Utah Transit Authority, Salt Lake City began construction on the Folsom Trail on June 1st! Construction is scheduled to be completed in December 2021. The trail will follow the abandoned Folsom rail corridor, connecting 1000 West to 500 West and the North Temple Frontrunner Station. If additional property is acquired, the trail will connect west to the Jordan River Trail at Fisher Mansion. In the short-term, the trail will follow existing sidewalks on 1000 West, 200 South, and North Temple to connect to the Jordan River Trail.

Construction includes a paved trail as well as lighting and some landscaping. After completion of the City Creek Daylighting Feasibility Study, we are working with Salt Lake City to daylight City Creek through the Folsom Corridor. This will add additional landscaping, green infrastructure, and amenities. Efforts will create an urban trail corridor that improves east-to-west access to transit hubs and the downtown core and provides ecological space for humans and wildlife alike.
