The Seven Canyons Trust operates on the ancestral lands of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe, Goshute Indian Tribe, Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation, Ute Indian Tribe, and Shoshone-Bannock Tribes (land colonially known as the Salt Lake Valley).

This acknowledgement honors the indigenous communities that stewarded our snow-fed creeks for centuries and respects the enduring connection to their homelands. It is our commitment to share the Valley’s history and to actively counter the white settler-dominated narrative of discovery.

As they imposed their culture on the geography of the Salt Lake Valley, we lost many of the native names and stories of the land. It is our commitment to partner with indigenous communities to tell these narratives once more.
