Mill Creek Restoration
A Place for People, Nature, and Connection.
Mill Creek winds west from the Wasatch Mountains through neighborhoods, roadways, and industrial blocks before meeting the Jordan River in South Salt Lake. The City of South Salt Lake and Seven Canyons Trust are working together to restore habitat, improve water quality, and create neighborhood spaces where people can connect. Together, we are taking the first step toward activation by exploring how to enhance the surrounding blocks west of Main Street through a neighborhood planning process guided by community voices, ensuring that future improvements reflect local identity and support a vibrant, connected corridor.
Goals
Restore and enhance Mill Creek’s natural systems;
Engage the community in shaping the vision;
Support equitable and locally driven development; and
Strengthen connections between people, water, and place.

South Salt Lake City and Seven Canyons Trust partnered with the Urban Land Institute Utah Chapter through its Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) program in January 2025. The TAP convened professionals in real estate, development, design, and community planning. The TAP provided an in-depth, multi-disciplinary approach to tackling key urban challenges, including enhancing green space, improving stormwater management, and promoting equitable development in the region. Their recommendations serve as a valuable foundation for ongoing, community-led planning and restoration efforts.
