We are excited to announce the Three Creeks Confluence has received a 2021 High Achievement Award under the Project/Study/Master Plan category from the Utah Chapter of the American Planning Association. This award recognizes projects that make an exceptional contribution to planning in Utah and merit recognition of the highest achievement. The project also received a 2022 Honor Award in the General Design category from the Utah Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. This award is granted to one project per category that represents outstanding accomplishments in the profession of landscape architecture.

The awards recognize the innovative project design, which features a 200-foot section of uncovered creek. The area was originally paved over with a dead-end section of 1300 South that covered Red Butte, Emigration, and Parleys Creeks for over 100 years. The vision was dreamed up by students at the University of Utah in 2014, the class which later became the foundation for the Seven Canyons Trust.

The seven-year effort was completed in July 2021. Over 1,000 residents came to celebrate the park’s opening. The Glendale neighborhood of Salt Lake City now harbors a beautiful green space for children, outdoor enthusiasts, and wildlife to enjoy and thrive. The awards celebrate the transformation of this space from a degraded parking lot to an impressive display of stream daylighting’s potential. And, the Three Creeks Confluence is just the first pinprick in a century of repairing the past 100 years of damage to our waterways.
