Starting this Sunday, October 4th the public is welcome to explore the eclectic Allen Park.
In Spring 2020, Salt Lake City purchased the property for $7.5 million with assistance from Utah Open Lands, Save Allen Park, Preservation Utah, and Seven Canyons Trust. Immediately, the Salt Lake City Parks & Public Lands developed a short-term plan to protect the site’s natural, artistic, and historic amenities, while allowing public access.
The public will be able to walk the length of Allen Park Drive with access from 1300 East. Community members regain admission after Dr. George Allen shut down access a half-century ago. Stroll among the countless mosaic artworks, historic buildings relocated from across the valley, the mature riparian forest home to peacocks, squirrels, and other wildlife, and one of the last remaining wild stretches of Emigration Creek. The property will be open during daylight hours seven days a week. Parking will not be available on-site. Take the 220 Bus Route or utilize public parking at Sugar House Park.
Into the Future
Partners are continuing to develop a community-based long-term vision for Allen Park. First, the site’s natural, artistic, and historic properties must be inventoried. Then, a plan will guide restoration, revitalization, and improvements, as well as activation and programming. Click here to share your thoughts, ideas, and stories about Allen Park!
